I have a 1997 non-SVT v6 with gutted manifolds, and now I'm worried about passing the new NY emissions test. Will a pair of MIL eliminators and some fuel additive get me by? (I've had the CEL on since the gutting job.)
TIA for any advice. CEG rocks!

MIL eliminators will delete the CEL...but wont change the actual emmisions of the car. All those do is "fake" the computer into thinking everything is fine and dandy...when obviously the pre-cats are gone. I'm not sure about the fuel additive part, I doubt it though. My CEL stilllll isn't on since the gutting of my pre-cats almost 2 months ago.
Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, this time more intelligently.

MIL eliminators will eliminate the CEL so that concern will be gone.
If your main catalytic converter is in proper working order & you have the car nice & warmed up when the test is done, you'll be fine. If you'd like to be sure, there may be independent shops that can perform a basic emmisions test for free. They used to do that here in Florida when we had required testing.
Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.

Thanks for the input. I know that MIL eliminators do nothing but fool the computer. My real question is: Will the OBDII scan used in the new NYS inspection regime also be fooled? I know that a v6 Contour can pass the tailpipe sniffer test without the precats, if the engine is warmed up and running well.

If the computer is not showing any codes, then the OBD II scanner won't pull any either. And as far as I know, they are only doing the tailpipe sniffer in the NYC region for now.

if the CEL light is not on, and you reset the computer.. the only code that would show up is 1000 (drive cycle not completed) which, if they did scan codes, would cause a retest later, as they will not pass you with a 1000...
Now, this also depends on how long ago, and if you did, in fact, complete the driving cycle..

Hey, thanks a lot guys. Does anyone know how many miles/starts it takes to complete this "drive cycle"?

I had to do this to pass emisions last week. The drive cycle details are here...
