so last night i was out laying the smack down on an 04 Jetta GLI with an intake, ecu and fmic in my 98 SE 5speed...his girl friend asked him "is that his engine making that noise?" I pull over, check the dipstick...bone dry...the motor has a little knock at 4500rpm...what should i do about this?...is there anyway i can replace the rod bearings with the motor in the car?...please pm me with some info, i need help bad!!!! thanks, Nate

you = pwn3d by lack of maintenance.
Your best bet is a 3L at this point. Then you can lay the smack down on R32s as well. If you keep oil in the engine.

i honestly dont know why thats so hilarious, my project car is a neon and i know you can replace rod bearings by just dropping the oil pan, and i didnt know if thats the case with contours...

yeah dude... I bet you were burning oil... and never payed attention to it for a while, and it just got to the too low point... ALWAYS pay attention to the oil dipstick.. I check my oil level once a week if not more. 3l time.

I dont think a motor swap is possible...i need a car to drive daily to class and work...

If you've spun the bearings you can't just swap the bearings and think you're good. The rod and/or crank are probably scored and it'll get rod knock instanlty again.
You can only swap bearings if the engine has not sustained any damage.
The only option for you is a engine swap. Time to roll out the POS neon and fix your SVT.
