Well spring crept up on me way too fast and I still don't have any tires for my new 18"s.

I need some recommendations on some 225/40/18s.

Now I need to keep a budget in mind cause I got the 3L project going on which took a chunk of money away from me. I was checking eBay for some but didn't turn up too many good ones. Mostly just cheap crap.

My E1's are running Kumho Ecsta Supra 712's, just so you can get an idea of what kind of tire I'm looking for.

I don't want anything like Ecsta 711's or similar tire. I want something good but nothing extremely expensive.

So what is everyones recommendations?

Falken Azenis
Kuhmo Ecsta 712 (on both my cars)
Toyo Proxi

Those were the best I've found

Azenis are super-sticky, and probably too short on treadlife and harsh on ride for you. Great for auto-x, though they can hydroplane a lot easier than regular street tires. Toyos and Kuhmos are okay, but the Fuzion ZRi is suppossed to be a little better. I really like them so far. The Avon Tech M500 is probably a little better, but costs a little more too. Both of these new tires are better than the revered Yoko AVS ES100, at least in the wet. I would say that either the Fuzion or the Avon would be a step up in every area from the Kuhmos you have now.

I am currently running Kuhmo Ecsta 712's on my 19s and love em. Great combination of grip and treadwear. I was running Hankook K106's on my previous 18" wheels and loved those as well. Good grip and beyond excellent treadwear. You can stick to those affordable options and have very good results!

Sorry, but Kumho 712's suck. I had the 712's and they were a SERIOUS step down from the BFG's - just dreadfull treadwear and poor lateral grip.

I'd look at the new Toyo Proxes 4's, or if you can afford it the BFG KDW2's.

I think that there are better buys that the 712s for the same price, like I said. Kuhmo used to be the only tire that cheap, but not anymore. Fuzion owns the 712. And yeah, the BFGs are suppossed to be very, very good.

How much can I expect to pay for them?

I read about them already and I was already considering them but I wanted to hear from someone who actually owns them instead of just online tire reviews.

From what I've seen, certain cars take better to certain tires. 712s and ZRis burn up too fast on a heavy, powerful car. The Contour loves the KDW2, even though they might not be opitmum for a heavier car, or a lighter one, or one with stiffer suspension, etc. I'm planning on them for my next set, but I wanted to test out the ZRi first. That being said, for the price I think you will be happy with any of the choices here, you really get what you pay for.
