Ususally, except when there's bearing of teeth and those headlong dashes, scratching at the doors and windows to be let out....like I said it was my opinion on the breed, because I've owned quite a few since I was little....I'm not an animal psychiatrist or anything....

Most dog trainers and snobby breeders I know like to comment when they hear of dog attacks that the dog had a stupid owner. Yes, train, train, train. Classes are intended to educate owners too. Our big male german shepard is still slow to drop his guard with new people despite being a 110 lb puppy with us because he's so protective.

Now there's a source of unbiased information. I'm sure I could goolge search something like pitbullsarebadforum.com in under a minute.

That's complete bullsh*t and you're lying to yourselves if you believe that. I can't tell you how many stories I've read about "sweet" and well trained Pitbulls suddenly attacking. (Didn't that happen to Stazi???) It's sad and pathetic that this characteristic has been bred (and frequently perpetuated) into such a cool dog. Granted the public always hears the bad stuff, but that's not to say that the dogs have a clean history...
Are they more aggressive than other dogs? I don't know. Labs? Sure. Terriers? Nah. But that's not my point.
I'm not here to start a discussion about aggression or about how I "read this one story..."
I was just stating that I think pitbulls are beautiful dogs, but have a sad history (and definately a bad rep). I wish you a wonderful friendship with your dog.

BTW - I didn't say anything about learned behavior, but I definately should. I think the nature of any dog is to love. (Sure there's a few outliers). But I think these poor dogs get a bad rep from 4'8" men with a jacked up truck and a small wang...and a pitbull to improve their image. It's these people (sure I'm stereotyping) that often perpetuate "tough" behavior from their dogs. They're bad owners, no doubt. Sorry I get so huffy about this topic. I honestly want nothing but the best for this breed, and I certainly oppose blanket bans *cough* Georgia *cough* on these dogs. Ok, I think I got it out of me.

When the inspector cam efor the Homeowners, I simply told him it was a shepard mix...he looked puzzled, but I wasn't penalized for having Hunter here.

So you read some stories, eh? That says enuff there.
Blanket ban in georgia? So pit bulls aren't allowed here? Didn't know that, noone follows it, and I guess it's like some of our laws (like car exhaust noise, etc.) that aren't enforced 90% of the time.

I'll purposely repost...
http://www.theunexpectedpitbull.com/
A fellow rotorite is actually in the calendar... June.
See the list of "warnings" for a Jack Russell Terrier... or Parson Russell Terrier if you want to be AKC technical.
1) Only dog.
2) No other pets.
3) No small children.
and the list goes on and on... yet one of my best friends has a totally lovable JRT named Nippy who is extremely loving and lovable.
I suggest everybody who has reservations about pit bulls to visit this site and see more about these dogs than the media hype.
