Any dog can be aggresive, but IMHO, the WORST dogs are the small terriers!! My folks had West Highland White terriers and they were horrible!! They attcked anything and everything...no fear at all.
You are absolutely correct, all dogs can be gentle, it's matter of raising them properly. We call our pit-x Hunter because he looks like my father-in-law and myself when we put on our camoflage...He looked like he was wearing Tiger Stripe fatigues to me when we rescued him from the pound. He's a big mush pot with those who know him, but he's VERY protective of us, especially my wife.

Watchout for your home owners insurance. Most will make purchase a separate rider if they find out you own a Pit Bull or a Rotweiller.

I think again that is training. My rat terrier is very friendly. Barks at a lotta stuff but as soon as someone pets her, she calms down.
I think german shepherds are the meanest, but it can be trained out of them (if it's in them). I just don't see many good family germen sheps.

My neighbors across the street have a ferocious German Shepherd, he's even chased my dog around in OUR yard such that she was afraid for a few years to go in our side yard. Although my neighbors' methods of training him weren't the most kindly.
However there's another German Shepherd down the street who is friendly as can be, one of the best dogs I know.
My cousins have a part Lab part German Shepherd, he's huge!

I have one and he is a loveable little thing.
Except he dragged one of the pillows off my bed this morning and took it out into the muddy back yard...and it was raining. He also also been gettign on the table lately.
BAD DOG, no biscuit.
My Brewser is just about a year old now. He is such a dope.

I meant that terriers can be aggressive by nature; they are very territorial. They can also be very, very sweet (pitbulls are a terrier too). One of my best friends and his wife get Bavarian Shepards (same things as German Shepards, just bigger) and they are VERY well mannered around others.
Yeah, my neighbor has a shepard/lab mix, and he's big too!! I have a feeling that our "pup' is proably going to be around 100lbs., if not more.

But they're not. And I haven't noticed them to be any more territorial than other dogs.

At least the one's I've been around have been....i don't mean that ALL of them attack people, dogs, etc....they just bark like hell when you get within 100 feet of the house. I've been around other breeds, and they don't seem as defensive. My folk's always took care to socialize the dogs and get them around others, so i don't think it was becasue they didn't like people. These are just generalizations based on my observations.....not fact....

They bark yeah. But most of the times they are barking just because they're happy and see something going on. A lot of other dogs bark too. Barking is not a sign of agression.
