Carpe in reply to you talkin about sellin the ipod adapters...you say they can probably be found for around $70. I stopped by my local audio store and was told $100, are you talkin about ebay? or do you know somewhere else i could find it. I was planning on just going the cheap method and using a ai-net to rca, but if i can find this adapter unit for around 70 id be all over it. (ai-net to rca and rca to minijack comes out to almost 30 so it wouldnt be too bad)

If you mean ebay, can you give me a item # so i can at least get a good search outcome? Thanks

but the whole point is to control it through the HU. what you want is the KCA-420i adapter. Cost on that unit is around $60. I sold a couple to CEGers for $70 (the lowest my boss would let me go) back when I was the audio hookup. The problem is that they are apparently still in high demand. heres one for $80 but ad shipping and your back over $90

dont mean to be such a burden and asking you infinite questions, but i was reading up on the KCA-420i on alpines site and it made it sound that the adapter unit is optimized for 2004 or newer alpines. Mine is the CDA-7894 which i bought new probably back in 2000 or so. Although it Does have the ai-net adapter cord in back, im questioning whether it will be as easy to use, or show all the details that it claims to do.

If youre not sure i can ask my local audio shop so if its trouble dont worry about it. Thanks

It would work the same, it would work just like you have a cd changer hooked up. except instead of changing CD's your changing folders on the i-pod. And the folder titles and song titles will be displayed on the HU.
the 2004+ models of Alpine have the quick search feature which just makes navigating through MP3 cds, changers and I-pods a little easier by simplifying the process.

thanks for the input, ive found mixed answers searching google and stuff like that.

I think ive decided to get the whole unit, now the main task is trying to get one cheap.. this could be a while heh

ill make an attempt to update when i have it done

also a quick question..it probly doesnt belong in this post but im assuming you know, what size are the rear speakers? the sticky says nothing about them and neither does the car manual. thanks and i apologize for being dumb.

Thanks for all the great information guys! I'm definitely going to spend the money and get the adapter so I can play it through my headunit. I'll let you know how everything goes!
