Quick question to those in the know.

I want to remove my door protectors. Tried to do it with cheap fishing line but it always broke on me.

Anyways, is this the best and least stressful method AND what is the best way to clean off the glue/gunk underneath???

Thanks all

alessandro

The best (actually the onlu) way to safely remove the ding protectors is to pull them off and then rub the glue off with your fingers. I'm pretty sure this mod is still in the FAQ section.

After I got the molding started with the fish line, I used a razor blade to cut the double sided tape close to the molding (be very careful). Once I removed the moldings I used my thumb to kind of roll the remaining tape off. For the final touch I waxed the areas that the molding were. IMHO the look is very clean and a cheap appearance mod well worth doing.

I'd like to add more ding strips!
Perhaps a set at the same level as the door handles. Seems we get a lot of SUV door dings up there.
Where do you all live? And where do you park? I am envious.

My car is a 95, and I didn't remove the strips until 2000. Man was that adhesive a pain. I held a rag against one end of the strip and poured hot water over it. After I held the hot rag there for a while, it just peeled the strip back with my hand and SLOWLY pulled the entire length of strip off the door. Then I methodicaly removed the adhesive with my thumb nails little by little.

A quick wax job on the doors after that and I was done. Total time........3.5 hours!! I love it though. It's like a totally different car to me now.

I removed mine this weekend in about 1 hr or less. great results! Does anyone know if the 24V badges have screw holes behind them?

On 98+ cars, the badges do have holes behind them.
