This is probably not the case here, but I am always amazed at the ignorance of the Ford dealer sales personnel. I almost always know more about their products than they do. Do they get any training? Do they read any of their sales brochures? Do they read any of the stuff coming out of car magazines?

I would think that the new Mach 1 will only be at the SVT stores, but the Glenwood dealership isn't an SVT store, so I don't think that is the same car. I could be mistaken though.

Well, this general sales manager also happens to be my girlfriend's dad, so I don't think he was doing that.
Girlfriend's dad or not, he is hugely mistaken.

1) There is no 2002 Cobra, so there are no "leftover" engines. Cobra's were built in 2001 and the new 2003 which is not yet on sale. There are no 2002 Cobra's Built.

2) The Mach 1 is in fact a GT. As previous people pointed out, the motor is infact a 4.6L DOHC. However, it is not a Cobra motor. The cams and heads are infact different from the 2001 Cobra as is the the functional "shaker" hood scoop. In addition, the Mach 1 retains the Bullitt GT suspension package, and numerous interior/exterior trim changes.

3) The Mach's will be available through any Ford dealer, same as the 01 Bullitt GT was....this is because it is not an SVT vehicle.

4) Being a salesmen, excuse me...Sales Manager  , doesn't mean he know's everything about Ford's product plans. A few of us on here actually work for Team Mustang (I know of at least two of us) and get disgusted with some of the drivel passed off as fact.

Silver Snake... you hit the nail prety much on the head there... I actualy DO know EXACTLY what the Mach 1 is and what it is made up of, as well as the Cobra, and GT for 03'. You are also right about it having the Bullet suspension and so on. The Mach 1 is not an SVT vehicle and will be sold as other Mustangs (non-Cobra's) at the same dealerships.

Son of 1hotsvt, no offense man, but dealerships are EXTREMELY misled all of the time and really don't know much of anything when it comes to this stuff. I understand that he is a reliable source of info for you and all... but he is very mistaken in that, so I don't know who told him, but HIS info was NOT reliable at all. It drives me nuts how ignorant dealerships are. 99% of the time, I go into most dealerships of different car companies and know more about the cars and company than they do! I hate that! Take what you get from ANY dealership (reliable/high up person or not) with a grain of salt... do your own research.

I think I have kind of an oddball car if this is true...

1998 -> 1998.5 (Trim level changes)

GL is no more. Now only the LX, SE, and SVT. Basically, now LX=GL, SE=LX, SE + sport package=old SE
More decontenting: split rear seats only available on the SE
Clock in radio, no longer in dash
SVT wheels changed to Cobra style, strut dampenings changed
Rear window/brake light design changed
Color revisions

I have a 98 SE, and it's 4cyl. The clock IS in the dash, and I'm not sure about the "split seats" in the rear. Is it a 98.5 or a 98? If it was just a 98, then wouldn't it be a Duratec if it was an SE? The build date on mine is 11/97.

I've said this before and I'll say it again. I have yet to talk with a saleman about a car I was interested in buying that knew more about the car in question than I did at the time.

So, no ofense to Andrew or his GF's dad, but the dealerships are just about the last to know about their products.

No Comment about future products plans. We are only allowed to comment on current programs that have been "released" to the public. Sorry.

Thanks for all the replies. I think what happened is that he called it a cobra engine mistakenly. He usually knows what he is talking about, so I can rely on him. Thanks again.

Is there a reason that dealers tend not to know what they are talking about?
