how much play should the bushings have?
has anybody found a way to replace them w/o going broke?
i went to get the car lined up and the bushing have way too much play and there are small cracks around the rod that goes thru the rubber part.

assuming we are talking 4-bolts: there is a couple of used ones on ebay right now might be better than yours, but then again they might not
otherwise it's a $100+ each

2-bolts are way cheaper, so u won't go broke.

rod that goes thru the rubber part
you mean the ball joint boot is torn? you can replace the ball joint, but it's a hassle and since the bushings are shot, why bother?

No play. They are bonded to the metal pieces.

I've seen new ones (4-bolt) for as little as $90 each on Ebay. I wouldn't bother with used.

DIY is the only way to avoid the huge labor charge, which makes up the bulk of the expense.

I put in a used a year ago, and I'm already replacing it, since it has developed a little play in the front bushing. My left is just a mess, both bushings and the ball joint are shot... but they took 140k to get to this point. So yeah, buy new, and DIY. I'm attempting this next week, I'll see what method works for me, and how much I get pissed off. Maybe I should wait a week until I turn 21 so I can buy a case of painkiller/stress reliever?
