Any suggestions? (other than slowing down)...

The main concern in your case may not be just insurance payments...it might be whether a company will cover you! Lately, some companies will drop customers if they have a one or two at-faults accidents.

It also depends on whether you are going through (what I call) a volume insurer (like RBC, Meloche/TD, or BelAir Direct), or traditional companies like State Farm or Economical Life.

Have you tried an independent insurance broker?

Have you tried using http://www.kanetix.com/, you put in your information and it gives you the 4 best insurance quotes. It's a good starting point.

I tried Kanetix, but all the local brokers could get me lower than they quoted.
It all depends on your record, and age. If you're under, I think, 24 with points then you're pretty much screwed!

Now, be wary of finding somewhere which is lower. Check your coverage and make sure that you read the small print for exclusions and so forth.

try President's Choice...I know, they usualy make soup and stuff, BUT in my recent quest I found them to be really cheap.... until the multi-car and the combined house insurance kicked in with my current insurer.

I'm with a booker who got me a decent deal with Pilot insurance.
I found RBC cheaper, but then they (Pilot) sent me checks (rebates for multi coverage and the fact car insurance droped 10%).
I just can't bring myself to buy the cheapest policy on the market, let alone one from a bank!

The best thing is start calling around the yellow pages.
I called 5 places, have a clean record and it was amazing how rates are insanely priced by company.
I was quoted $1500-$2600 (ING sucks!!) same coverage on all quoted policies.
For some reason living in the core of TO is the killer.

Up until Feb 2004 I was paying $950/yr. I miss that.
