I'm being cynical, yes, but I GUARANTEE it'll flop. The Saturn badge it THE wrong badge for them to bring this car out under.

Saturn envokes the image of plastic, cheap, commuter cars. The ION Redline is kind of poking at that seal, but still is an weird looking little car.

GM is poising Saturn to move into the $25-40K market. It will be more of a sporty version of Buick than a kissing cousin to Pontiac in the lineup. It will be getting a lot of Opel designs in the near future. This is just their first step at making the move. It'll take time, but I think Saturn is still new enough in the grand scheme of things that it can move up pretty easily as long as their products are good.

But I wouldn't get too excited about the Sky just yet -- particularly in regards to it being a "Miata Killer". People don't buy the Miata because it has XX horsepower or not -- which is why MazdaSpeed Miatas sell for several thousand less than even regular ones. People buy Miatas for the driving experience, something that GM utterly sucks at, and certainly something that's impossible to determine from pictures. We won't know if it's a "Miata Killer" until people are actually driving the things.
