I don't know whats scarier, this guys grammar, or the fact he might one day drive an 11 second car.

FYI, a Mclaren F1 pulls an 11.6 in the 1/4

Racelogic, to make a 4 banger or V6 pull 11's it will take a lot of money. To make a 5.0 mustang pull 11's it will probably take around $6000, you can double that for a 4 banger, and remember when you are pushing a lot of horsepower through a small engine reliability is gone.

You make it sound like it's so easy to make a Neon run 11's and that's why you want to sell your Contour. THEN you say this and totally contradict yourself. Go buy a ricer because it seems like you would fit right in with that crowd.

Not to mention that front wheel drive is not the prefered platform for drag racing! It's that weight transfer thing. Also transaxles are much more fragile than separate transmissions and differentials found in rear wheel drive cars. Be prepared to spend extra bucks beefing that part of the drivetrain as well. laugh

Need to learn where to pick your fights! Contours may not be the best 1/4 milers, but they handle better than tons of other so-called sports cars, and not all owners of great sports cars can DRIVE them. Take contours to road courses and drive them hard!!!
Last trip to Road Atlanta:
Beat:
2001 Porsche 911 twin turbo
2000 Porsche Carrera 4
2000 Corvettes
replica 427 Cobra
Several Mustang GT's
Honda Prelude
Porsche Boxter

Keep yourself humble though, 'cause other surprises are out there...
Beaten by:
Honda CRX
1974 Datsun 240z
several RX7s
Corvettes
Porsches

You get the point... Horsepower isn't all you need on a roadcourse like it is on the 1/4 mile!! laugh

I've watched a 99 SVT blow away an 89 Trans AM GTA 350tpi and a 89 Cougar XR7 5.0. The GTA only ran a 17. Rear wheel cars have no grip. The SVT just ripped of the line. While the "big boys" were leavin most of their tires at the line.
The only mods on the SVT where an air filter and - the resonator.

Obviously the GTA had a bad run, normally he should be in the high 14's low 15's unless he has mods. We all know a car is only as good as who is behind the wheel. At the track, one missed shift and it's a bad run. If the person is driving a Lightning....they can run high 13's all day. Just point, stomp and hang on!!!

As for rear wheel cars having no grip...when is the last time you saw a top fuel dragster with front wheel drive? You haven't. RWD is much better at the track due to the weight transfer. When a FWD car pulls...the weight is transferred from the driving wheels...to the back. This makes FWD cars much more difficult to launch effectively.

If you want a really fast car cheap for the track, like everyone else said, buy an F-Body or Mustang. Those cars were designed and built for the 1/4 mile. A stock T/A WS6 with ATX runs 13.7s all day long at the track. You can buy a new bare bones Z28 with MTX and 310 HP for right at 20K. Sure beats spending 16K on a new Civic and spending 6-10K on it and now just approaching the performance of the Z28.

I got smoked at the track by an 89 Civic CRX, he ran a 14.866 @ 100.39 mph. He obviously was no where near to stock. He had bottles obviously. Remove those little bottles....and it's going to be a tad closer. Yes, it was fast, but a stock T/A would still beat it.

The point? Make whatever you can afford....go faster. But there is a point where it's self defeating. If you want an all around performance vehicle....the SVT/Contique is a good choice. You want a 1/4 burner....buy the F-Body or Stang. Of course, if money is no object....you can make anything fast. Yes...a Yugo could beat a 911 Turbo if someone wanted to do it.

No, our 'tours beat other cars, I EAT NEONS for breakfast lunch and dinner, all the time. All the people from the ghetto side of town buy them 'cause they are cheap, and then they throw a touring wing on them and call them fast. The cars are really cheap in quality too.

As far as cars I have beat, I posted two notable ones, but I did finally loose to a car.

300ZX twin turbo beat me after I did the 3L conversion. That was a lot of tuning hours ago, and no headers, and happened to be when I had put the stock exhaust back on for some troubleshooting.
