Hope you've got some Frequent Filler Cards with some gas stations. 12MPG with that $3.50/gallon Premium you've got in SoCal will put a hurt in the pocketbook.

That should drop at least that one off the list pretty quick.

Don't get me wrong. I love the RX-8 and chances are I'll buy one in the next few months. But it's not for everyone. The Renesis is probably the pickiest, most finicky rotary ever made (and that says a lot), and it sucks gas and oil like nothing else on the road. It's an enthusiast's car, make no mistake.

wow! i didnt know that! probably wouldnt have even checked cuz i would just have assumed it was good, being a 6 and all.. hard to believe it gets mpg much worse than a stang GT. sheesh, it seems like everyone of her damn choices has some issue with it. and she doesnt like any of the suggestions ive made.

we'll probably also scope the 300. the wuss version, based on price. anything bad about those? besides the wuss motor?

ps thanks for the heads up

yeah, i just was reviewing the website and realized it doesnt have any cylnders im not too familiar with rotary engines (or engines for that matter). my wife just wants the damn car cuz it looks nice.

their website says EPA mpg is 18/25 sigma. are they fudging their numbers or what?

Well, they're not fudging the numbers, the EPA is with their outdated tests. The Carmakers themselves have no input on those numbers. EPA mileage tests suck in general and are really bad when it comes to determining mileage from anything other than piston engines, like hybrids or rotaries.

25MPG is virtually impossible in the RX-8. The absolute highest reported on RX8Club is 23mpg, and 12-15mpg is the average for mixed driving. Most people would be happy to just get 18mpg on long highway trips, let alone in the city as the EPA claims. 10-12MPG is not uncommon at all.

And all that is after about a dozen updates to the ECU that Mazda has released that have improved mileage. Single-digit mileage was pretty normal when the RX-8 first came out, even though the EPA sticker still said 18/25.
