On the oil filter, where can I buy this K&N HP 2010 filter. Yes I'm aware it's a bit more pricey but it's a minimal extra charge, and that's besides the point. I'm willing to spend money on my Contour.
Autozone, Advance Auto Parts, etc. They don't always have them, but I have good luck with the chains in general.

There were issues with Syn ausing leaks when it was first developed, but that was back in the day like long before the contour was even being designed.
Its totally safe to do it at any millage and should not induce any leaking that wasnt already there to begine with, which should be addressed anyway.
not true.... i switched over at 85k or so and lost 4 quarts in 2 days.....

you lost the oil because the seals and crap in the car were not up to snuff to begin with. they only worked because they were plugged up with gunk. the synthetic cleaned out some of the gunk leaving the seals to do their job wihch thay were not capable of doing any more. that is where the "it will cause leaking" myth comes from.

Even still, I may have never had that problem if I had not switched....

If you have an old worn out motor or one that has not been well maintained.. DON'T try and switch to synthetic. Otherwise: Oone of my customers has a well maintained GEO that had 112,000 miles on it and made the switch to 5W-30.. It runs just fine, and now has 169,000 miles on it.. This is with AMSOIL. My Cougar has 86,000 miles on it and runs like a champ without oil loss on 0W-30.. and a single oil change per year. My SLK uses AMSOIL 5W-40 European and the Honda Odyssey is also on AMSOIL 0W-30 and getting almost 30 mpg on the highway.. PM me if you want any advice on your car..

every car i have owned i ran mobil 1 5w30 and haven't had any problems, soon as i got my most recent car, about a month and a half ago i switched to mobil1 it has 120,000KM's, and when i had my zetec i did the same thing and didnt have a day of problems and i switched it at 108,000Km's and crashed it at 124000KM's, the only thing that i noticed about the car was that i seem to get slightly better gas mileage with the mobil compared to conventional oil. My 2000 SE Sport had 47 K when I got it, and after almost 45K of oil changes at Jiffy Lube, I started using the Mobile 1 synthetic when I was able to do oil changes myself again (I aquired a dwelling with a garage) at around 90K. That was 25K ago, and I have NO LEAKS. 5w30 Mobile 1 and the K&N 2010 oil filter.
Speaking of which, I have another 800 miles or so before my next oil change...better clean the garage. Last time I could only pull the front end in.
