you lost the oil because the seals and crap in the car were not up to snuff to begin with. they only worked because they were plugged up with gunk. the synthetic cleaned out some of the gunk leaving the seals to do their job wihch thay were not capable of doing any more. that is where the "it will cause leaking" myth comes from.
