This pic of the Maser is a good shot; check out how much narrower the wing is compared to the body work. IIRC one of the concessions they had to make to run was #1 shorten the front and rear body work, and #2 make the wing the same width as the cockpit. Supposedly Maser has the fully ACO-compliant, narrowed, MC12 nearly ready.
I just noticed something else, the air inlet on the back of the cockpit. This type of inlet was very popular in the GTP heyday of the 80's
Spice SE88C and into the previous GT1 era with the
Porsche GT1 and
Toyota GT-One. When Bentley
debuted the EXP Speed 8 it, too, had the engine inlet there. But the third year of the program brought a serious redesign of that chassis and the inlet
moved to the sidepod. The key to closed cockpit chassis is getting clean airflow to the rear of the car and Bentley found the air inlet hindered that flow. I wonder if Maserati will do the same?
