I've seen a lot of very nice exhaust systems described and/or displayed in the forums. From what I can tell duals are the way to go which is what I want to do. My big question is would it not be more effecient and better sounding to split the Y-pipe into two separate lines and run them through a dual cat and on out through whatever you have set up? Also interested in any thoughts on decent domestic suspension components for those of us who are just "piddlin" along.

Dual cats, or mufflers for that matter, do not promote good power. The gasses mingle in them causing flow degradation and extra turbulence.
Stay clear of them.

The Y-pipe is used so only 1 pipe has to "snake" it's way to the rear of the vehicle. It is only then split back up into 2 pipes (SVT) for looks. A properly designed & built single exhaust (3") would produce the same power gains.

If you do go true duals. Make sure not to have the pipe crush bent. I've seen quite a few terrible looking dual exhausts on this site!
You would get better performance out of a properly built single or even quasi vs any poorly built (crush bent) dual.

Also, if you go with a true dual system a crossover pipe or 'X' pipe located at approximately the same distance as the 'Y' pipe will promote even better flow than separate dual exhaust pipes.

As long as you retain the 180 degree bend and not use straight downpipes! (ala SHOShop/BAT)

Otherwise a misplaced X or H pipe will degrade performance.
