Yes I know that, notice I said "Offically" and not literally. Hell I lived in a mainly white area anyway. My point was that the idea that black people do not deserve to be in his white bread heaven is seemingly racist. Or did you mean "what the hell are you doing in our part of town" as meaning why are you bringing crime to our area? If so title "Racial profiling" should not be the subject of this thread.

I just spent 3 months in Chicago and plenty of time in Lincoln Park (which is an awesome place) I would never feel secure enough to walk around and not feel like I might not be robbed. I LOVED Chicago, but the whole city had the you might get jacked at any second vibe to it.

Yeah, and alot more bring up race just due to inability to move on with their lives and stop thinking the rest of the US owes them something. As far as i'm concerned, black people have had it alot easier than several other races/groups throughout history. Stop whining.

And the whole "what are these negro's doing in my neighborhood" mentality goes both ways. Try walking around harlem or the bronx if you're not black.

A person's first impression of another is made by how that person looks. That's the way it works. If you walk into a rich neighborhood, whether white/black or both, dressed like a fuggin' cryp - Then expect to get looked at funny. The same thing happens to people with physical deformations, retardations, fat people, crazy people, etc. But when it's a black person getting looked at funny, it's racism.

Now the question is, is it really a stereotype/racism, or an image that alot of black people have made for themselves? Look around you man...the most famous black people in the world portray themselves as "gangsta's." Rapping about who they've shot or how many times they've been shot, how much drugs they used to sell and how rich they are now. Hell there's a shootout outside hot97 every other week here in NY! You mean to tell me Fifty Cent is a model black citizen?

Please...

You mean its been one or two generations at best and we are supposed to forget already! You obviously don't have much interaction with black people because I do not know a single person that feels this country "owes" them anything...if u met a couple odd balls good for you.

And its just as stupid for them to act that way as it is this guy.

A black guy with a durag on riding around in his car bumpin rap music could be a "thug" to you. To me, thats just a regular old black person. Why should they have to change who they are just because a few uppity people think they are bad based on looks alone. And no, its not funny...

And alot of black people have not made this image for themselves. The ones that do, well that is just their environment...and the famous ones exploit the image because its what White America wants and it sells. That does not reflect black society as a whole.

Should I pick out a bunch of drugged out rock guys and blame them for a bad image of white america? They certainly do not reflect whites as a whole...

The bottom line of this thread is that what he said was wrong, period and it damn sure is not my fault or anyone elses fault he thinks that way.

Then you must live in a sheltered world indeed. True there are certain parts that I would not like to hang around like the projects but on the whole I don't think the city is as dangerous as your imagination would have you think. I am sure some of the other Chicago guys can back me on this.

There is a large portion of the black community that thinks reparations for slavery are due. If you don't consider this thinking that our country 'owes them something', then you might be the odd ball.

EDIT: I'm not saying the average black person thinks the country owes them something, I'm just saying there are people out there that think we do. There is a fringe/freaky segment of the black community that really does a disservice to all black people. These people think the United States government owes them reparations, among other things.

If you had read my earleir posts (including the one that started this thread), you would realize that I know these are the wrong thoughts.

Go over my posts in this thread, and realize that your arguement is not really worth anything, and that you indeed brought in some of your own stereotypes into the discussion. I really think you missed my point. I don't want to have these sterotypes, and until this point in my life, felt I did a good job of avoiding them. But like I said earlier, and many others agree with me, that people judge you on the way you present yourself.

So if people don't want to be judged before people get to know you, don't dress or present yourself like a thug, or a slob, or a drunk, or a badass because you are only setting yourself up for a bad situation.

It just seemed to me that there were a fair amount of questionable people where ever I went. Black, white, and brown. Don't get me wrong, I loved Chicago.

I am not getting you wrong. It's just I know there are questionalbe people everywhere. I am not saying your basis is on race either. Like I said, I come from a white bread area and feel pretty safe most places in Chicago. Just because people look scary doesn't mean they have bad intentions. Just go to Wicker Park, used to be a lot worse, now it's still full of scary looking people but it's pretty safe. Yeah sure you shouldn't be alone on the streets at 3am in some parts but what city isn't like that? Even here in Vienna, a city with one of the lowest crime rates in Europe, there are certain parts you might not feel safe in.
