FACTS
1) It is fairly unusual to pull a feeding tube on one with the ability to feel pain. When no brainwave activity exists.. yes, done all the time. This girl clearly senses pain. Significant physical suffering will occur when the tube remains out.
2) Emotional suffering will NOT occur if she remains as such. Though you all now say you would want no such support, and imagine it to be a horrible life that determination was made with your cerebral cortex. The ASSUMPTION here, the premise is that she has no cortical function. In point of fact, she has had no PET scan to acurately determine this, (the gold standard). I assume she had the somewhat cruder EEG many years ago but this is not current standard of care. If she does have higher cortical function, then this is all the more tragic.
3 It is quite clear the family will suffer emotionally in the extreme. Whether they have refused to accept reality or whether they are simply content to have a 6 month old for life, I do not know.
{{SPECULATION
I find it unusual the the husband so vehemently wants this to occur after so many years. I find it unusal that he wants her body cremated over family objections as well. I also (from what I understand) find her initial injury, MI induced by high potassium, to be quite suspicious. It simply should not happen in someone with normal kidneys..I do not know all the details so will leave it here.}}
Bottom line. I am not sure this guy did not murder his wife but the court system has seen all the evidence and made its call. I am not sure it appropriate for Congress to become involved.
