Ok, I just had a LONG discussion about this with my mother, who has been a nurse and in the medical field for 30 years. To begin with, a feeding tube does NOT eliminate hunger, they are feeding her a thick nutrient solution to keep her alive, she's been hungry for 15 years. But, because her brain activity is so low, her brain does not send the "hunger" signal to her body. Of course, this can only be proven with a full MRI and CAT Scan, but this is standard on people with this level of metal capacity.

In the end, its a shame she's had to go thru all of this, and she deserves to just pass on.

My question, where do the religous groups draw the line? What's the difference between "My body can no longer keep itself alive, and God is calling me to heaven" vs the "Right to live" argument?

In the end, I think its a huge mistake for the government to get involved in this. Can you imagine how many medical cases could get tossed before Congress now? I mean, don't they have other crap to do, like fix social security, or prevent terrorism.
