the entire engine was designed by porsche! the engine was delivered to ford but it was too long to fit into the engine compartment. (ford screw up, what else is new :rolleyes: ) ford then "shortened" it and that is what we have in our cars today. ford didnt realize shortening the engine would cause any problems but that is where we get the crank whip from. the genius' figured that out later, so enter the duel mode dampener.
