We all know that Bush and SUV drivers are to blame for high gas prices. I think we should send them all to a re-education camp, run by GreenPeace of course, to make them stop believing that the Arab countries have a stronghold over us.

OPEC is to blame in all this. They cut production time and time again since 9/11. These people are NOT our allies, we should be doing everything in our power to break away from their hold on us.

Furthermore, quit your whining and bitching about how we better go see Alaska now before it looks like a snowy Iraq. People that say this usually have no clue about how small an oil rig is compared to the entire friggin Alaska wilderness!!!

Have any of you people ever seen the picture that compares the size of Alaska to the size of the lower 48? It's almost the same damn size! Now are you telling me that a few hunderd, even a few thousand oil rigs would destroy the way wilderness looks, which is the equivilant size of the lower 48??? Give me a break!

I am not all for oil over environment. If given the choice of becomming less dependant on foreign oil, and cutting down a couple thousand trees; I will take the oil. No one is proposing to 'destroy the Alaskan wilderness.' Stop trying to run this crap down everyone's throats that Bush is destroying Alaska for oil, it's simmply not happening!

move to southern mn and you can get it. Good ole corn in fuel tank. Wish my car could run on it. There are a few gas stations were I am that sell it. Don't remember the price though. I should just start getting gas at this one gas station that sell 114 octane out of the tank for $3.99....it is almost the same price as normal stuff now.

You're right, because this is a new problem, and all.

Have you ever seen the picture that compares the size of the Exxon Valdez to Prince William Sound?

Relative size has nothing to do with this. Ecological impacts can extend far beyond something's immediate vicinity.

I'm not claiming to agree with the vast majority of the arguments put forth by the environmental lobbyists and groups. Most assume the worst will be commonplace. But the arguments on the other side are taken to an equal extreme. It's just as ignorant an argument to suggest that we won't be affecting the environment by drilling as it is to claim that we'll be destroying it entirely by drilling.

Not again. We went through all these arguments last year when the prices were climbing. Then when they dropped at the end of summer, everyone was quiet again. Geez.

I can't believe I have to now pay an additional 4 dollars to fill my truck with the .20 increase. I fill it up roughly twice a month. That's $100 a year extra. What will I do?

Wait. Has the subject changed to gas prices yet, or is it still on oil drilling and reserves?

Hasn't it been proven than animal life in Alaska actually florishes around oil pipelines, because of the heat? Do you realize the measures they have to go through to make sure that the area stays clean? They don't put up with anything up there. I knew a guy that worked in the oil fields in Alaska. He had a co-worker that killed a bobcat that had rabies. It was this worker's life or the animal. They fired him and sent him back home. All because he was trying to protect himself. Does anyone have pics of ANWAR? Isn't most of it vast wasteland of snow and rocks where this is almost no animal life? They are only talking about using like 1/2 of 1%. People [censored] about oil prices, but don't want us to drill. People [censored] about foreign dependency, but don't want us to drill. Make up your minds.

No kiddin'.

In Vancouver, it's a ~$1.10/liter. And I'm getting horrible (18mpg) mileage.

Drilling in the Alaska is using a bandaid to fix a severed juggular. It'll help temporarily but the problem still looms.

There needs to be a president with balls to grab America by the throat and drag them kicking and screaming into the 21st centure where cheap gas is no longer a guarantee. It'd be nice to see an administration focus the country on conservationism and r&d on future tech.

Bush already made me happy about Iraq, now he just needs to grow some balls and do that to the country.

IMHO: The government should increase the gas tax by 15c yearly for the next 10 - 20 years to slowly transition the country. Offer tax and insurance discount incentives to smaller displacement (say, cutoff at 2500cc ), and even more incentives to alternative transport (biodiesel, diesel, hybrids). The increased tax should offset the incentives to equal a zero-sum loss. Also remove the 'light truck' exception from emissions and gas guzzler taxes and create a bussiness exception where you are exempt from any of those things if the suv/truck is used for business purposes.

Fasttrack the low-sulpher diesel migration as well so the modern diesel engines from Europe make their way over.

New jeep liberty CRD runs on biodiesel and regular diesel IIRC.

Either way, its going to suck that future generations will never know the true thunder of a big old V8 that didnt worry about gas prices or the "environment"

From what i've gathered the oil companies are not so much having a shortage, but they can't afford to 'lose' money. So with all the new efficient things coming out such as low energy appliances, hybrid cars, etc. they have been losing their profit. By raising the prices so much they can still lose actual buisness but by increasing the costs they can still make the same profit.
