I'm currently looking into buying the 63mm TB from SHO-Shop and the KKM. I did a search on all this, and learned a lot. Here's the topic I found from Sept. 2001 that gave me the most info. 65mm TB Topic (Sept. 2001)

What I learned basically is that you can't reach full potential of a larger throttle body (even a higher RPM fwhp loss) unless you have a custom burned chip for the EEC. I also learned that with the larger TB, you lose hp because of less air velocity and poor fuel to air ratios.

All in all, I am not so sure about my future investment. I need some advice. I was thinking of pairing the KKM with the 63mm TB, but it looks like I'm going to lose power with that. Does the 72mmm MAF really help that much? Where am I going to get the most power, disregaurding exhaust aspects?

A bigger TB definitely does put you into the A/F tuning area...it may not be required, but you won't see the full effect without tuning. The S-AFC seems to be your best bet if you go this route. I would look at the Pro-Flow 75mm MAF, it bolts right up and works very well with no tuning at all.

I would most definitely skip the 63mm TB.

It's likely too large for all save the heavily modified SVT's. As is the 65mm.

Yes you would need A/F tuning ability.

Am I getting two different opinions here?

I want to get more power. I've heard KKM will help me out with this (in addition to the good sound). I also know that my current TB is extremely small (have you seen the non-SVT duratec TB DemonSVT? It's dinky!)

What all is the MAF going to do for me? Anybody got a picture of an installed MAF, and everything that goes along with it?

Thanks in advance.

Stock Duratec TB is 54mm
SVT unit is 60mm

Go with an optimized SVT TB.

What are some symptoms that would conclude you
needed a bigger TB and/or MAF? Sound? or
lack of acceleration? stumbling?

Hmmm, I think it would be a need for better acceleration. A lack of power or stumbling would seem to indicate some possible problem areas. (ie ignition, fuel delivery, etc.)

Larger TB doesn't do a whole lot if the upper IM is still stock. Flo-bro!

I am finally at the point where an "optimized" 65mm works better than an "optimized" 60mm.

Anyone around my level or above should consider the possibility of upgrading. (A/F tuning is a must)

Anyone below should save their money for a mod that won't hurt performance.

well i can definately tell you that the stock SE (54mm) TB is a huge restriction
when i put on my 65mm, i felt a huge increase in top end, and its not even opeing to WOT cause of a peice of plastic that i need to shave

i may get even more increase from a SVT TB, but at this point im happy
