If the battery is dead (or almost dead because the alternator can't charge), yes, it could, but you should get the battery/charge light coming on in your instrument cluster (and that would not be the reason for a P0402). You might as well charge the battery while you are at it. Then put some grease (or anti corrosion) on the terminals. Terminal corrosion can happen to any vehicle/battery (and sometimes within 2 or 3 years old).
