How about a little gray matter exercise - Been lots of talk through the years of launching problems with our front drive platform & how it affects the ET in a quarter mile.
What kind of quarter times could we expect if the Contour SVT 2.5 was RWD?
3L time?
Turbo?
Would I be correct to assume that the handling would be more desirable in a RWD Contique?
Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.

2.5L FWD SVT = ~15.5 2.5L RWD SVT "=" ~15.2 - 15.3
The biggest different would be with the high HP guys that can't get any traction on the FWD platform.. Put that much HP on a RWD platform and I'd think BurritaSVT would be looking at 12.3's if he could put some fat slicks on the back..

I could easily run low 13's all day if it were RWD. Probably even high 12's on slicks.
The turbo guys would be low 12's easily.
It can be summed up in two words...
FWD SUCKS!!!
2000 SVT #674

It was not broke; Yet I fixed it anyway.

No, it wouldn't. Even if you shift the weight to 50/50 in the process, a stock tour/SVT doesn't seriously need traction. A little more grip would be nice, and so would wheelop elimination, but really 215 or even 205 width sticky tires are tough to break loose. Maybe a couple tenths to 60, and a similar gain in the 1/4.
But I'm talking out of my a with my own prsonal experience, I'm not a drag guy.

wouldnt the weight of the driveshaft and supporting components cancel out any gains the RWD would present? or at least close to no difference. (for lower hp applicatoins).

Its would make a sick axx drift car But unless you were pushing 200+ at the wheels. I doubt it would make more than .5 second diff. Its still a big hp/weight ratio, and a rwd tour would prob. weight 3200 pounds if not more.

A general rule of thumb in 1/4 racing is, for every 1/10 you take off of your 60' time, that's 2/10 at the 1/4 mile.. Taking a couple tenths off of your 60' time is HUGE!!
