so - the weekend report for the Edelbrock RPM 5542 Resonator replacement...

had the resonator installed at Midas for $45, the 5542 is about 3 inches shorter than the stock resonator so some mods were done to get it to fit properly. it's a wide body muffler and it JUST fits perfectly in the exhaust well under the SVT...

the second the guy started the car everyone's head turned in the garage, they couldn't believe the sound! not at all ricey, just a nice American growl smile

so i reset my 'puter yesterday and took the SVT for a spin... HOLY COW!! i need to get a chip at this point, i don't remember hitting the rev-limiter so many times in one day! my car kept on pulling and felt like i could goto 7500rpm with no issues...

just so you guys know - i was the guinea pig, spent ~$180 getting a new resonator installed...(including the cost of the part)

so the part number for an SVT is the Edelbrock RPM 5542 offset/offset Performance Muffler - it's ~$100 online, sounds good - no rasp just more "presence" inside and out - you can definitely tell it's no longer "stock" laugh

How's the drone? Too loud inside the car?

Do you have the stock mufflers too?

I've been wanting to replace the glasspack res I have now (which actually souonds pretty good...) with either the 5542 or the 5503. Was waiting for some actual input on the 5542 before I spent my $$$.

Thanx for taking point!

laugh

I was wondering myself which resonator to get after I gut my pre-cats. Then I'll be catless and i'm sure very raspy. Plus adding a resonator I think would create a little back pressure, being a good thing. I want one that won't kill sound because I like it loud, but somthing to kill that damn rasp.

it's definitely louder, there is a bit more drone (added some just with the Y-pipe) - nothing annoying though... at cruising speeds you really can't tell much of a difference! just a bit more burble out the backend...

it used to be that i could only hear the KKM screamin, now the sound engulfs the whole car when i get on the gas! definitely a noticable difference from before smile

i was going to cut the rear mufflers and put different tips on, but decided to go "cheap" for now smile glad i did, i think without the rear mufflers i wouldn't be comfortable with the sound levels - you guys who like "loud" would probably love it though!
