I still can't believe it...

I had just completed the hectic part of my ride home, pulled into town behind a minivan and we both approach an intersection at about 25 mph. Green light - next thing I know, minivan turns right and in the middle of the intersection...BAM! An explorer came out of nowhere (I think trying to make a left through the light - across my lane) my windshield shatters, the hood is smashed against it and I'm inhaling airbag gases as my car stalls to a halt.

I felt intact, save for a bruised wrist, and a mark on my forehead from the rearview mirror ejecting from the windshield. So I get out and the Explorer is on its side behind me! Driver - unconcious. I check out the SVT after pushing it out of the intersection, and cutting the battery cable to shut the damn horn off, and realize I'm missing my front right corner (as simple as I can put it). Bumber wrecked, hood wrecked, front right corner panel wrecked, wheel wrecked...but no major engine damage, doors shut fine, so I salvage some hope at least.

I could go on forever...but in general the SVT wedged in under the back corner of the truck (almost T-boned) and he actually rolled over the top of me. Quick estimate = $10,500 in damages....I still don't know what to think...most of my mods were done in the last 3 months, my aussie bar is not yet installed and I've got a Pro-M in the mail.... frown frown frown mad

I'm just hoping she's salvagable...

I'm sorry to hear about this....especially when it was not fault of your own. As they say, as long as you are OK....the car can be replaced.

Dude that sucks! frown Just glad you are OK and hope and pray that the other driver is OK as well. So did he/she run a light or what? Hate to say it but I'm betting the insurance company will total your car given it's a 98 model year with that much damage, still, there's hope...

UR probably right about the insurance, best case scenario the car's worth 11,500, but the real estimate will be in the next couple days. I'm hoping the other fella' alright too, no blood so I think he was just knocked out, fingers are crossed. I don't know if it was a red, maybe...maybe a yellow, it was really, really quick - tough to remember much.

Glad you're alright. Also glad I own a Contour and a Mystique. With all the accidents I read about on here I'm yet to here of someone hurt real bad.....aside from the car J/K. Good luck with it. However you may really wish that they write it off as if it is fixed it may be prone to redundant problems. frown

Scary thought: We don't know how many people were killed in their cars. They wouldn't be able to write to tell us about it frown

On second thought considering all of the rollovers and other serious accidents heard about on this site and seeing how nobody was seriously injured, I too am extremely glad to drive a Contour.

I'm glad you weren't hurt badly. Cars can be replaced; people can't. I can't imagine how you must be feeling right now. I hope you can get your car back (i.e. NOT totalled), and hope for the Explorer's driver's safe recovery.

thanks for all the thoughts everyone
and I agree that the Contour's safety record has been impressive as far as what I've heard from the CEG, and I absolutely appreciate those airbags more than before...they are pretty amazing when you see them in action, though they did add about 3g's to the estimate, water under the bridge though, all is well. I'll report on the car when I can, otherwise I asked the autobody shop owner if I could come rip parts off the car if its junked, so I may be holding a yardsale. :p

It will probably be totalled if repairs exceed 75% of the cars value

Good you are ok, them SUV drivers think they are gods of the road and make plenty of mistakes on it, luckily you didnt pay physically for "Most" or their attitude...

plus, i have driven wrecked cars before and they are never the same, dont drive the same, have odd noises etc.. i prefer never to get in a wreck, but that wishful thinking, i dont know if you even would want to keep the car if they could fix it, be chatter box probably and then have problems galore...
