Holy shhhht that's a real bummer. Glad your ok. Maybe if it's totaled you could buy it back but either way, like the others say wrecked cars arn't the same. All this about suv attitudes, I have a 96 4runner, I have no atittude (and can't spell either). I'v actually had a close call at 70mph in Texas going home on vacation were a lady in a lincoln town car cut across me, glad I didn't flip. Hay you can always find another SVT, not another you.

Helpful things to know. Take your car to a body shop you trust. I have my own guy in Titusville FL who can do it all, and does it right.Find every single receipt on every mod you did, especially the ones in the last 3 months. The insurance company, if they total the car will give you credit for those. Any aftermarket that stays with the car can be credited back to you. I beaing the cheap sob I am, actually got credit for the audio equipment I'd put in, and I ripped it out of the car. Also stole my hood ornament from my beloved Town Car. I miss my baby. But, back to my point, if you find a good shop, if there was no frame damage, try to get the car fixed. It may sound risky, but the frame is the only real worry, after that, things are fixable. I had been T-boned in my 99 Cutlass by a guy doing 45. He hit the side of the engine wall. Did about 7k in damage to the car. I had to go back to get a couple of things fixed, but the car's as good as new now. I actually can't find when driving it, any hint that it had seen a major hit like it had. Curtis Auto Body fixed it right. Looking at the outside, you can't tell anything ever happend, and certainly can't tell the front passenger door, and rf quarter panel aren't original. See what the body man and the insurance says though. If he looks at the car and says, "That thing's fu**ed, no questions." like he said about the car that hit me. And that little Grand Am was a ruin. If he says, "I can fix it, prolly take 3 weeks," like he said on mine, dance for joy. smile Good luck either way. And use your aftermarket to inflate the price. Then strip whatever's not bolted down, and as many things that you can that are. smile

Dude,

Sorry to hear about your accident. As long as you?re all right, that's the important thing. Having also been in a serious collision several years ago in my first Myst. a beautiful 97. I can say without any doubt that I totally believe in the crash worthiness of those vehicles.

I was in a 5 car pile up on a highway coming home from work one sunny afternoon. Still not sure what happened. I was hit from behind then next thing I know I'm wedged under a Honda Accord. It was resting on the A-pillars of my car. The Accords exhaust pipe was about 5 inches from my forehead. Most of that car's weight was resting on my A-pillars.

The cop helped me out of my car and after looking at the damage was quite surprised that my car was still holding that weight! Keeping in mind that there was a Maxima parked in my back seat!

Long story short, the insurance company wrote of my 18-month-old car and I went straight back to my Ford dealer and purchased a 98 Myst. I have since moved into a 99 and loving every minute of it.

I have a standing order at my dealership for one of the new Contour/Mystiques in 2004! That's right, they're coming back. We'll get the newly re-designed Mondeo. I recently drove on in Europe and its a great car!

I hope things work out for you. Best of luck.

Cheers,

INTERESTING INFO ABOUT THE MODIFICATIONS...THANKS FOR THAT, I WAS SURE THAT MY MOD MONEY WOULD BE LOST ENTIRELY. GONNA HAVE TO DIG UP SOME RECEIPTS, EH? THIS IS WHERE OUR SMALL AFTERMARKET COMES INTO PLAY, I COULD PROBABLY CONTACT SP, SHOSHOP, TIRERACK, ETC. AND GET RECORDS OF PURCHASE. THAT'S THE FIRST GOOD NEWS IVE HEARD ALL DAY.

I'm sorry to hear that, and I can totally relate because we practically had the same accident happen! In October of 2000, I was driving straight through an intersection at 35 mph, when a suburban decided it was going to try and quickly turn left in front of me. Luckily he made it, but an 18 year old girl in an EXPLORER behind the suburban wasn't paying attention, and thought that because he went, she could go and out of no where, she turns left right into me. It completely totaled my car and my right ankle, so you can be thankful that you didn't suffer any major injuries...just emotional trauma! Take lots of pictures and keep documentation of everything...from pain, to being without a car, any expenses you incur and so on, this will definitely help when it comes time to settle.

Get it towed to your house and start putting the factory stuff back on! Your probably totaled and you don't want to loose all the cash invested!

They're geting started tomorrow morning, hahaaa the relief is unrivaled. SHE WILL LIVE TO RIDE AGAIN!

Thanks again everyone for your kind words. Now the ball's in Allstate's court, but needless to say, the worst of it is over.

I agree that the Contour's safety record has been impressive as far as what I've heard from the CEG,
True and better that the Explorer you wasted. Was the driver OK?

still don't know...the cops cleaned everything up so quickly, including me, I couldn't tell, my guess would be yes, he'll eventually be ok...if not already.
