After more experimenting with the intake, I've seen a noticable difference by increasing the air filter-MAF coupling size. This setup opens the intake hole on an S & B Powerstack to over 4". This couples to a tapered MAF adaptor which is a little over 3 1/2" on the MAF side. My MAF inlet is also beveled out as far as the casting will allow. (About 3 1/2" Dia.) I added a screen between 2 oversized MAF gaskets to help "straighten" the air flow ala SVT recommendations. The results were surprisingly better throttle response and spin up when compared to the original 3" opening on the Powerstack filter!

For cone air filters and MAF adaptors, the typical 3" inlet size is not enough!! A large (3.5"+) "big mouth" type of S&B filter performs noticably better when mated with an aproppriately oversized MAF adaptor. This little detail can make a real difference!!

FYI, the performancefords MAF adaptor has a 3.5" inlet. They'll even open it up a little more if you have a larger MAF.
