For the past three decades, the livelihoods of ordinary Americans have become steadily less secure. Job stability has declined. Long term unemployment has become more common. Fewer workers receive health insurance benefits. Fewer workers receive pension benefits. Real wages have declined for lower income workers. Debt payments take an increasing greater portion of our incomes. Our standard of living has declined compared to many other nations: the people of Western Europe, Japan, Australia and Canada now live longer, have better overall health, and have a higher standard of living than Americans.
