i was laying in bed last night thinking about what else i could do to my contour...i got to thinking about the air intake temp sensor. what effect would it have on engine performance if the sensor thought the air was colder than it actually is, or vice versa. If fooling it into sensing colder air is a good thing then any suggestions on how that can be accomplished?

it has been done with the Zetec on ther ZX2 not sure if anyone on CEG has done it to me though the performance gains are iffy one person would claim large performance gains and then another would say it didn't do a thing and then another would say it caused a CEL. me I just wouldn't mess with it.
here is a link to a ZX2 site showing you how to do the mod.
hope this helps wink

Try a search for "resistor" in the performance forum. This has been discussed quite a bit. A single resistor in series with the sensor will effectively fool the computer into thinking the intake air is cooler. Just cut one of the wires going to the sensor, and splice in a 1/2W resistor. You'll want between 2 & 10K ohms of resistance. Put some push connectors on the wires so you can experiment with different resistor sizes and see what happens. Some say it helps, others say it aggravates pinging. frown

So basically that mod allows you to run higher octane and if you don't then car goes boom. I was looking at haynes manual and it shows the ECM as having a connection for Ford to change what octane gas your car uses. So maybe you could get Ford to change your car's set octane.
