this 98 is no deal. it has a nada retail value of 12250,wholesale of 10225 and a loan value of 9275. better take a big pass on his asking price. you sure do not want to pay over retail for anyones car.

I guess what it ultimately comes down to is how much your truck is worth.. The dealer is basically assuming your car is worth $4200. If it's worth more, you're getting a bad deal. But if it's worth considerably less, then this might be a good deal. Only you can tell us that.

I'm going to offer them 10,000 for it. Hopefully they will play with me a little.
Do you think I should try and contact the previous owner and find out how much he paid for it?
What do you guys think...
or maybe I should let it sit on their lot for a little while and then come back with my price?

it does not matter how much the dealer paid for it. he has to make a profit so he can only go so low and still stay in business. your job is to find out how low that is. make your offer now and he just may take it. you having a trade in with a balance owed complicates things as far as what you will ultimatly pay for the car because he can juggle the numbers to make it look like a deal. just remember, he usually wins bigtime on a trade in deal. you are much better off selling your car outright. i love it when someone trades in a car because it usually means i am going to make more money from the deal.
