I figure that gains are minimal from a borla, but I love the sound and the look of larger tips peeking out from the rear. Could I get the subject heading done for cheaper (< $300) and what brand of parts would you recommend???

FYI-the borla system was dyno'd at +7hp. Perty good if you ask me. wink
You could certainly get 3 new mufflers welded in for $300 or less. Try magnaflow, dynomax, or any other straight through muffler to maximize performance and efficiency.

$700 for 7hp?

$90-100 per 1 hp gain is good?

I guess I'm just cheap but I don't see how that's good. Couldn't I free up the exhaust for $300 and use the other $400 better?

$700??

FWIW, you can get the Borla system brand new for around $550, and it's stainless steel. If you're going to spend $400 just for mufflers and labor, you may as well drop the extra $150 and get stainless steel. Just my $.02

1 highflow resonator & 2 straight through mufflers (Dynomax/Magnaflow) = ~$150-200 & $100 to install.

Gains = ~5FWHP; maybe more???

Nearly all or even all the gains for half the price. Sounds like a decent plan to me.

Yes it is not stainless mufflers, but the piping still is stainless & mandrel bent!

2 SS Magnaflow rear mufflers + resonator = $260 (plus shipping). With shipping and install, you'd be right around $300. Gives ya $250 to spend on something else...

Do I need stainless? I'm planning on getting a winter beater prior to October, but it's not set in stone. Those SS's look sweet though...Whats the price breakdown on that $260? Could I maybe get the SS mufflers and an alternate (less $$) resonator replacement?

I have a friend who is a warehouse manager for Jegs, and he gets a 30% discount so a great deal is a possibility...what's the retail on the mufflers and the resonator? If I could get all 3 for $182 that would be sweet...

The two SS mufflers are $102 each (on sale at an online site). The res is aluminized and costs $57 (again at an online site). These prices are not retail. I think the SS muffler retails for around $150 and the res. is around $70.

You could always buy 2 aluminized rear mufflers and weld on some nice tips, but even good looking tips are getting expensive these days...

The piping is 2.25", right?

And the different lengths would mean different db level? (longer = quieter?)

Thanx.
