I'm pretty sure that the tri-y does a better job at scavenging exhaust gasses. The exhaust pulses blend together a little better than with a 4-1. Just my observation.
BTW, that ZXtuner header worries me. It doesn't have a flex section anywhere. If your muffler hits something, isn't there a HUGE chance that you will crack the weld on the head flange?

That's because it ends right after the collector, you'd have to add your own.
98.5 SVT
91 Escort GT (almost sold)
96 ATX Zetec (i brake to watch you swerve)
FS: SVT rear sway bar
WTB: Very cheap beater

Just in case you are not aware, a tri-Y is also known as a 4-2-1 header.
Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.

Doesn't the Zetec have a flex pipe under the car, approximately where the V-6 has the cat??
Frankly, the only problem I see with the zxtuner 4-2-1 header is that you'll need to buy a high-flo cat to stay emission legal, but that's no big expense. And if you're clever, you can put off adding the cat for a little while... by keeping the car off road only I mean...

It does have a flex pipe, but are you gonna run the stock small exhaust/flex pipe after buying a header? And what is "emissions legal"?

Until there's money for an exhaust upgrade, there's no real harm. Just a small performance hit which will be about the same as running an SVT exhaust with a cat - maybe even less.

I would like to upgrade the whole thing at once. Im currently scouting around for a shop that would do the welds but I'm a little unsure about the details of what I would need. I'd like to pass emmissions... but I'll explore other options if need be...

Thanks guys for ALL your help! Especially Tourdeforce with his VERY insightful comments. I think I've made my decision, and now I'll be making the buy in the next month. So Watch OUT for my pimped out ride!
