I disagree.
The speedometer (VSS) would not go up if the clutch was not linking the engine to the transmission.
I would most likely surmise a broken axle shaft.
Worst case scenario even broken spider gears but that's more unlikely.
You can break the spider gears without catastrophic transmission failure.
