Terry, do you recommend a better (than OEM) oil to water cooler or an oil to air cooler? Can you till keep the stock SVT cooler (and have 2 coolers) or do you need to remove it for plumbing ease..? Thanks.

Terry, since your PM box is full...

Would there be an advantage to using a higher viscosity oil? I've been using 5W30 Mobil-1, but I'm wondering if this provides adequate protection at 300 degrees. Perhaps 5W40 would be better?

Oil is a major 'coolant' in modern engines, thicker oil flows slower and retains heat within bearings and engine, lighter oil flows better and takes heat away from bearings etc...nope never run with heavy oil, instant death to modern dohc motors...retain the the stoc oil cooler, fit a remote filter and an air to oil cooler,NAPA does a good one by Hayden #ATP-1-7505 .

Will this also work for the non-SVT crowd?

I've got a 19 row Setrab oil cooler in my Jetta that I think is a bit of overkill since I've already got the low temp thermo and fan switch. I'm thinking of swaping the Jetta to a 10 row and putting the 19 row in the Contour w/a thermostatic sandwich adaptor. Does this sound feasable?

The topic is low temp t-stat and diablo, so if this dude got both, then the t-stat would be effective, correct?

Yeah! What Redcon said!

...you guys are killing me here...

Let me ask again. Will a 160 degree thermostat and a re-programmed computer/DiabloChip help? (Keep in mind that I live in WI.)

Also, I plan on putting in a better radiator and fans. The stock cooling system is just plain sad. One freakin' fan!?! Give me a break!

No.

Neither chip (Superchip or Diablo) changes the engine's preset operating temperature range.

Might be because nobody ever asked them to? If I ever fork over the $$$ for a custom program, I definitely would make that contingent on setting up for a lower temp t-stat, at least with my setup. Doubtful this sort of change would fall under the "standard program" cost.

I'd be surprised if they could find it in the code.
They don't seem very competent in my dealings with them.

Demon have you dealt with both companies? You could always have someone else program it that doesn't work for them. How come zxtuner.com sells lower t-stats for the zetec? I think the important thing is to upgrade entire system. Normal t-stat is like 180 or 190 which is aight for operating. It's when engine gets much warmer than this that problems occur. So you need something that cools quicker not necessarily sooner. What is the computer's normal operating temp? It still may be lower than 160, because 160 would still be in NORMAL range on temp gauge, correct?
