Why do you care what it sounds like outside the car?  Are you going to be running along beside the car while someone else is driving? Oh, I get it... you'll be riding on the roof, won't you. 
My answer as to what sounds best in a Contour? Put your mids/tweets in the kick panels (aimed properly of course) and put 8" subs in the front doors. And don't have any speakers turned on aft of the B-pillar.  
And rule #1, keep the sound INSIDE the car.
