I am about to do this mod within the next 2 weeks, but I was wondering, will the new K&N fit in the stock air box?

If you are buying the K&N drop-in it will fit just fine. It's good for 1-2HP.

However the MAF may be a bit more tricky, but the acordian tube should allow for it's extra length if fully compressed???

I couldn't get my MAF and stock airbox to fit in the car. The airbox has some funky angle to it...there was no way the airbox was going to plug into that fender hole.
Uh...just reread...I don't think a larger K&N will fit into the stock airbox either.
Hope I answered your question.

So if the K&N and the new MAF won't work with the stock airbox, won't that decrease HP?

I phoned K&N and the new filter will fit in the stock air box, but apperantly the new MAF won't... is that right?

K&N does have a filter that will fit in the stock airbox. However, I was not able to get the 75mm ProM MAF to fit w/ the stock airbox.
My solution - ProM MAF and a 6" long open air filter. Works well. I'm building a heat shield as we speak.
I don't understand your "decrease HP" comment. Care to clarify?

What I meant was that if the MAF did not fit the stock air box wouldn't that cause a decrease in HP... Not overall, but a decrease in HP due to having no heat shield

It means the filter would be subject to heat soak in hot weather and stop & go driving. Heatsoak will degrade performance.

This is why folks with open air filters make heatshields and have cold air supply hoses feeding the filter area. Thus getting the benefits on an open air conical filter, avoiding heatsoak, and supply colder air to the filter area.

If you have ever looked at the stock SVT airbox you realize it has to pull all of it's air through that tiny inlet hole at the end!

Does BAT make the cold air supply hoses? Also does anyone make a heatsheild?
