That statement is completely flawed logic and not to mention you are still missing the ENTIRE POINT.
The EGR is ONLY open when the engine is not under load. Therefore what "power" is the engine making anyway.
At decel the injectors are shut off and the EGR is opened to help cool & clear the cylinders. You see the throttle plate is closed also.
You make is sound like the EGR is open all the time and by removing it you now magically gain performance. That couldn't be further from the truth.
The only side benefit of removing the EGR is some minor heat retention control on the UIM.
The cooling effect of the EGR can actually reduce tip in detonation.
The EGR can definitely be removed and programmed around (i.e. set the switch) but it's not done for performance reasons.

That statement isn't entirely true:
The EGR's #1 reason for opening is to reduce emissions ... just so happens that it also has those benefits. However, the EGR system wasn't developed to help cool & clear the cylinders, it was developed to satisfy EPA emissions regulations.

...wrong again guys!..EGR adds octane(slows the burn in the chamber by introducing burnt exhaust gas molicules that slow down the speed of the flame front thru the cylinder).Hot or cold gas will do this...most 'new generation' engines are now using 'cold egr'....Definition...Octane ,in any form...cold air...damp air...egr...high octane fuel additives ALWAYS SLOW THE BURN TO PREVENT DET!...Basic 'combustion engineering'....dig out the thermodynamics text books guys ...do some reading!TH
