That's because you don't know what you are doing.

I was told by three race shops to not use it. It is for emissons.

Yes it is for emissions, yet it is one of those rare cases in where it works to our advantage. As Demon said, companies that develop turbo kits find it easier to just eliminate the EGR valve rather than implement it into their design. Read what Demon said again and ask yourself, how can cylinder filling off (wide open) throttle can be a bad thing.

Other than that, the EGR is just a tool that does exactly what it says it does. Exhaust Gas Recurculator. It takes small amounts of exhaust gas (carbon dioxide) and injects it into the intake manifold. The exhaust gas injected into the intake manifold mixes with regular air, so when the mixture of air and carbon dioxide is put into the cyclinder to burn, the combustion is not as great because it is not 100% air in the chamber. In a way, you can say the carbon dioxide redirected into the intake manifold is designed to keep the potential of your motor down.

If tuned properly then you will have no problems. And don't forget that you won't have carbon build up anymore.

You say the combustion is not as great as it's not 100%, so why is there unburnt gas/air mixture in the exhaust gas to begin with? Because the combustion even without an EGR system still is not 100%.

I have given a little thought here and there, but no real research, to moving the EGR bung to post pre-cat, as nitrous oxide is a byproduct of the catalytic converter. There is just the problem of cabron monoxide..

Anyway, as previously stated, the EGR valve is only operational in low engine temperature, starting, idling, and excessively high coolant temperatures. Basically all times you are wasting gas, it recoups a little gas mileage. I doubt the performance difference is there from EGR to non-EGR, comparing factory tune with EGR against same tune with EGR function disabled to prevent MIL, because there is no "performance" at idle or starting..

Talk to andrew at wagner motorsports and ask him what to do with forced induction. he will tell you. NO EGR.

this is a good site for learning about egr. Not for forced induction but still looking.
