You missed a big point though.
It ONLY does this on deceleration when the recycled exhaust gas is actually cooler then the cylinder temps. It's used to cool the cylinders down because the PCM spikes the timing to clear the cylinders of unburnt fuel. The clearing the cylinders reduces emissions and increases subsequent cylinder filling with fresh air/fuel charge mixture.
The EGR is not used when under any engine load.
The main reason the ADC kit ditches the EGR is because it would be a PITA to make a custom EGR tube and hookups.
