Cartman,
I have CavTel's Phonom VOIP service. Had it for a couple of months now. Overall it works well, can't really tell any difference over a normal POTS line. Twice we've had situations where people have called and we never get a ring. Once it was because of a Comcast hiccup and I had to reboot the DVC device and then all was well again.
I was shelling out about 50/month for Verizon phone service for the POTS line, now I'm down to 20/month, with no fees (for now). We've got cellphones if we need to dial 911, so that's not a big concern for me, and the 911 locator is an option as well.
