Occasionally when I go to start my Contour (99 Contour SE with V6 Duratec) it makes this demonic high pitched noise. IT's very random and say it makes the noise, wait a couple seconds try to start again and is fine. Othertimes it will continue to make the noise for up to 5 minutes.

I really have no clue what is causing it, so if anybody knows anything please let me know.

That's the death squeal of the starter. It's getting hung up on the teeth and is over-spinning as the engine starts.

You can pull it off and clean & lubricate the bendix. (lithium grease or something similar) That's a 50/50 shot.
Otherwise it will need replacing in the near future when it finally gives out.

Is is like a wail/honking howl? IF so it may be "the moose",

If it is, look up "moose fix" or "TH fix" onthe main website "how-to's"

Starters are not too expensive. Installing one on an ATX is a *(%^*%^*)&%^&(^(P&%&%_(&%&*%)(*(&%)(^^*(% !!!!!!!!

I feel better now.

Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.

For a minute....I thought it might be caused by a flaming response from DemonSVT!
