OK, so I have a 5-volt device I wanna run in my 'tour. Are there any 5-volt power sources in there that I could tap into?

If not, what could I do to step down a 12v wire to a 5v wire?

While there may be 5 V sources in the vehicle, I suggest not messing with them. You screw them up, the engine won't run.

A simple +12 to +5 volt supply can be made with a 7805 (or LM340T-5) IC and a couple of capacitors for noise and voltage stabilization. A lot depends on how much load current you need to draw and what the actual load device is.

Transformers only work with alternating current....

A lot of cell phone chargers are 5 volt from what I have been told. You might take a voltmeter to one and see what you have.

To reduce the voltage on a DC system, you use a choke. For many years most cars used 9 volts for the instruments in the dash and the voltage was choked down with an IVR (instrument voltage regulator). When they would fail, most of the gauges would be pegged on the high side. I have changed quite a few.
