You are the first and only person to ever say that they have a failed engine that had an UDP on it. Not questioning you - just saying that for ALL the "my engine is toast" threads on the boards here, none of them that I have read ever reported having UDP's. Are these guys of yours not CEG'rs or did I miss all the posts?

BTW, how long did Brian's engine last with the stock pulley?

Mine lasted 86k miles BONE STOCK to the paper air filter (certainly much less than designed for), no racing, regular oil changes etc. Died from bottom end knock. I'm now convinced that crank whip killed it.

How much hp does the UDP net you anyway? Oh, and if the engine goes, it WON'T be in a ball of flame, but it will still be dead.

Why don't you just remove the air filter? It won't kill your engine immediately but it will eventually. In the meantime you'll have more power.

My SE has had its UD pulley on for about 2 years of normal usage with no failure yet. The SVT has had its UD pulley since its previous owner had it installed, also about 2 years ago and still going strong. The only reason that it is coming off the SVT is because a Vortech SC is going to be installed and a DMD is going back on the crank to give the SC the proper revs it requires.

Here is the problem.
1) There have been lots of engine failures.
2) Even if only a minority of them had UDPs, you cannot say UDPs are NOT part of the problem. Why, because the stock damper has been PROVEN by the OEM supplier to FAIL to prevent crank whip. Essentially, a high "background" failure rate makes it impossible to see a additional failure rate imposed by a UDP. (BTW, this is a common problem in medicical research re: disease incidence).
3) So to know HOW much worse is a UDP, you would need all the numbers....UDP failures/total Duratecs with UDPs and compare with stock failures/total stock Duratecs. Then you could see if the UDP is just BAD (same as stock), very BAD (a bit worse than stock), or VERY BAD (much worse than stock).

Now, I can't say UDPs are proven to be a bad thing, but you can say that in this case based on what we know about crank harmonics in Duratec, they theoretically SHOULD a bad thing. Kind of like smoking..it shortens the average life span of a POPULATION but some INDIVIDUALS live very long lives. On the other hand, DMDs are proven to be a good thing (as far as harmonics) and they are mutually exclusive..

well regardless the pulley is going on tomorrow. ill see how i like it. if i do feel too much vibration it will come off as soon as i can save up for a dmd. either way im looking forward to having it on. i can always change it after. it was my mistake to buy it in some minds, but it was my choice. i should have done more research on it first. but as always im happy with the service i got from cta - top notch. and im glad i actually got replies on this. good or bad ones, i have learned. and i will report what i think if it once ive had it on for a while smile
