Short Shifter refers to the length of the throw, NOT the length of the shift lever itself.

Exactly.

Some people just don't understand that point though. They think chopping the stalk is the same thing when it's not.

Chopping the stalk DOES shorten the throw . Shortening the stalk 2 inches shortens the throw by just over an inch. i'm throwing this in here for arguments sake based solely on the coments made above.

I have done both in cars and I prefer the actual short shifter, not the cut stalk. Reason being is that it is harder to control the shifter when it is lower as it isn't in an optimum position for grip.

Of course it shortens the throws. if the shifter is shorter, the knob doesn't have to travel as far hence, shorter throws. and the positioning is fine, I've never missed a gear. I'm sure you can all justify spending all that money on a B&M but I can't.

I love my B&M, I had a cut shifter in my last SVT, and it doesnt even compare to how nice the B&M throws.

I believe the only "true" short throw shifter available for the MTX-75 is the Steeda Tri-Ax(which I have). In making this a "true" short throw, the stalk was shortened ~1.5" and the lower portion(below the pivot) is longer than stock(which is why a riser plate(or in my case a lowering plate) is necessary). Having a shorter rod above the pivot point and longer rod below the pivot point provides the shorter throws as the shift cable can travel faster.

And also, the auction appears to be a real B&M shifter. Definitely post pics for all to see.

Makes for a leverage problem, right?
Longer shift lever, more leverage.
The short shift comes from different geometry at the linkage/cable attachment point (via length/shape,etc)

For you guys who did cut it... what did you use? I watched my buddy do it in his escort and it shot sparks all over...
