the problem is the picture in the auction and what I received don't look exactly alike, notably the knob which in the auction is clearly B&M, but I got some cheap chrome rounded knob. Do you guys know if there are any B&M stampings anywhere on the part aside from the knob?

The only place that had a stamp on mine was the knob that came with it...Im thinkin that yours might not be a B&M...

i'll try to post a pic of it tonight. But lets assume its a fake and I got hosed. What do you guys think I should do. Cut my loses and weld up the lower ball, or go after this guy through ebay and get my money back. The only problem is how do I prove its a fake and not a B&M?

Is getting a short shifter any different than chopping a few inches off the stock shifter?

For one I wouldnt recommend chopping the stock shifter, becuz theres more to it, and 2nd, the B&M short shifter is so much more quality...if installed correctly.

I dont really mean anything more, but just get the B&M, you'll appreciate so much more than chopping your stock shifter.

My stock shifter wouldn't come off. I couldn't get those bolts out. I chopped it and it looks bad ass, shifts fast, and it was free. B&M doesn't need my money.

Short Shifter refers to the length of the throw, NOT the length of the shift lever itself.
The one in my 996 is the same in apperance, but much shorter shift movement ( the oem unit was like rowing a boat)
BTW Porsche even has its Own short shift kit, very $$$$$$ of course.
