What about the Zetec engines and the VCT Zetec engines will they take longer? Also will this be able to ajust transmission shift points on ATX cars?

So what's the best way to tune this? I'd love to "tinker" as justin said, but I don't want to screw up, either.

I have been present when Kaiser's Apex-I was on the Dyno and I can tell you that the key is gradual adjustments. No earth-shattering changes. Start from zero (stock setting) and play with the powerband. You should probably expect to have to spend a few good hours on the dyno to get it just right. I will be quick to snatch this item. Tell me, is this a physically obvious mod? In other words, can it be hidden as to be transparent to the dealer? A question for us "Still Warrenteed" guys!!!

On a different note, Po-Jay, from what I read it sounds like a separate EEPROM that "plugs" into the PCM. You'll flash this EEPROM w/ your cars program and then tune it from there. When operating, the PCM will likely be bypassed and the EEC tuner will sit in for your PCM. So, in reality you'll have two PCMs, one stock and the other being the EEC tuner, but only the EEC tuner will be "seen" by the car. Am I close or waaaaaaay off on this?

A question for us "Still Warrenteed" guys!!![/b]The SAFC is a bit different than a tuner. There aren't near as many adjustments increments with it and not near the functionality. But I guess your right to say make small adjustments! It would at the very least keep you from making detrimental mistakes! Also these are adjusted by either laptop or desktop computer. They come with a power adapter so you can even unplug them and use a desktop computer to load the program. If I understand correctly this would even allow us to share custom programs freely! Now this is VERY COOL! Especially for those of us who don't have the knowledge just yet to do our own mappings! Thanks for the heads up Jason, this is exactly why I have held off on purchasing a SAFC, eManage, or Mafterburner! Later

Am I close or waaaaaaay off on this? So in effect, I couls actually remove the EEPROM and run completely stock settings again. So if I (wink-wink) blew my motor, not that I would (wink-wink), I could actually remove the EEC and go to stock. That way Ford would actually replace my motor under my Platinum Extended Warranty... Hypothetically, of course! Right???

this is exactly the sort of tuning aid I have been talking about for some time, and I know of at least one other company working on supporting the contour pcm ( www.tweecer.com ) This sort of tuner will allow complete control over the tune/calibration of the powertrain. This is both good and bad, it allows you to tune exactly to your personal setup, and run things the way you want. The downside is, how many out there really know what they are doing in tuning an engine? Not many (not even those of you that are trying to lie to yourself right now). As to those wondering about warranty issues . . . If you are concerned about your warranty, DO NOT install something like this (or the Apexi, etc.) since it is very easy to cause damage to your engine w/ the wrong settings, and a dealer will NOT warranty any damage caused by your tuning or aftermarket parts. These aftermarket items will typically leave some sort of tell-tale marks somewhere so a dealer can tell it was there. Also, if you do happen to try and are succesful in getting a dealer to repair damage caused by your inept tuning, you will be guilty of criminal fraud, and for your sake, I hope you don't get caught.
It's all about balance.
