i was wondering why i dont have a cel light. i have the dash w/o a tach. i turn the key and i see the abs, seatbelt, oil, and battery lights. but nothing that says check engine or a picture. so i was wondering if this normal of if i have a bulb out...or could of been removed. thanks for the help. HtR

It should be there and should come on when the ignition switch is first turned to RUN before starting the engine.
If it doesn't, then your suspicion that it is either blown or missing would most likely be correct.

Yea its probably just blown, cuz when I turn my key into the "on" position, I dont see an "ABS" instrument light like I should, still havent replaced it yet though...

It's probably blown. I found out I had this problem also when I failed inspection. Just pull the dash and replace the bulb. You'll probably realize you have a CEL after the bulb is functioning.

And if the bulbs are missing, you can guarantee that the replacement bulb will be on when you put it back together.

so does it say check engine? where is it located and so forth. i bought this car used from a dealer so if the cel comes on im think about taking it back to them. thanks for the help. HtR

Yeah the light says check engine, it's one of the bottom bulb places, just pull the cluster, turn it around and look. May need to hold it up to light, but you'll see where to put the bulb.

You should see a show of lights similar to this when you start your car (low gas light is relative .. most 98+'s have them, you might or might not ... but the CEL is always there.)

or just to be sure, take your car to Autozone to get the codes pulled.
