How's it goin'. I took a 9 month break while I had a Ranger but I needed to downsize and am back with an SVT! Anyway, I was wondering if there were any cool new N/A engine mods available that I should know about. Also, I was thinking of getting the msds headers, but would like to keep the exhaust noise to a minimum. without a catback system, would the headers be very loud? I heard they didn't add too much extra noise.

no, they don't add too much noise. you certainly wont feel their full potential w/o a catback, but they will add something. also, the apexi SAFC has been working wonders.

B*llsh*t. They are way loud without a catback! They are not too bad with the the catback and the resonator in, but without it they are loud. Of course, loud is a relative term, so all comments are relative to my perspective. warmonger

I think he means if he were to put an aftermarket catback system on. I think his intention is to leave the factory exhaust on with the headers.

Sean Hyland Motorsports came out with a better Apexi SAFC called a MAFterburner. It corrects air/fuel ratios. It has twice as many adjustments as the Apexi and is virtual hidden. Same price from SHM, $305 shipped like on GroupBuyCenter.com for Apexi.

Yes they are worth it. Even still... Ha! That's nothing. Imagine them with no main cat, no mufflers at all, and 2.5-inch pipe. I've been driving around like that for 2 days, and I think I'm in love Too bad my muffler arrives tomorrow

I don't have a res in the stock exhaust, so I'm thinking of putting one back in and adding the headers. The noise right now is perfect. Low and audible, but not loud. Anyway, If I keep the stock exhaust and put a res in, what res and mufflers should I use that would keep the noise down and flow pretty well?

Frank,
I was that way at Spring Zing, including gutted pre-cats, no resonator, no main cat, no muffler. Needless to say, ugly sound, loud, deafning, and everyone wanted to know what was that crap. It will get people looking alright.
I drove the car 5 miles even without the exhaust manifold, now that is loud and popping.

Try the mystery mod and use the cash you save to buy a bunch of other goodies like an Apex-i.I think someone had dyno proof that the mystery mod vs. headers is monimal. I could be very wrong though. Just a thought.
